Mute-Mate Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

Mute-Mate ("the app") is designed to automatically manage your phone's ringer mode based on location zones created by you.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Mute-Mate accesses, how it is used, where it is stored, and which third-party services are involved.

1. Data and Privacy

Mute-Mate is designed with a local-first approach.

The app does not require an account and does not operate its own cloud server or backend for storing your zones, location history, or app usage data.

Mute-Mate does not sell your personal information or use your personal information for advertising or behavioral tracking.

Information required for the app's core automation is processed on your device whenever possible.

2. Location Data

Mute-Mate requires location access to determine whether your device is inside or outside the location zones that you create.

Location is used for:

Because automatic zone detection must continue when you are not actively using the app, Mute-Mate may access location in the background, including when the app is closed or not visible on screen.

Location information used by Mute-Mate's automation service is processed on the device. Mute-Mate does not maintain a cloud-based location history and does not upload your location history to a Mute-Mate server.

Your saved zones, including their coordinates and radius, are stored locally on your device.

3. Activity Recognition

Mute-Mate may use Android Activity Recognition to determine whether the device is likely to be stationary, walking, cycling, or travelling in a vehicle.

This information is used to help the app adapt its location-checking behavior and reduce unnecessary battery usage while maintaining reliable zone detection.

Activity Recognition data is processed on the device and is not uploaded to a Mute-Mate server or used for advertising.

4. Ringer Mode and Do Not Disturb Access

Mute-Mate uses Android's audio and notification-policy capabilities to change the device's ringer mode according to your configured zones.

Depending on your Android version and configuration, the app may require Do Not Disturb / notification policy access to perform its ringer-control functions.

Mute-Mate does not collect or transmit your notification contents, calls, messages, or other personal communications.

5. Information Stored Locally

Mute-Mate stores information locally on your device that is necessary for the app to function.

This may include:

Mute-Mate currently uses local device storage and does not provide cloud synchronization or an online account.

If you uninstall the app or clear its application data, locally stored app data may be removed by Android.

6. QR Code Zone Sharing

Mute-Mate allows you to share and import zones using QR codes.

When you generate a zone QR code, the QR data may contain information such as:

QR codes are generated locally by the app.

When you choose to share a generated QR image, Android's system sharing functionality may make the image available to an application or service that you select. Mute-Mate does not control how a third-party sharing application handles information after you choose to share it.

Similarly, QR codes imported into Mute-Mate are processed locally and saved to the device as a zone.

7. Notifications and Foreground Service

Mute-Mate uses an Android foreground service to perform location-based automation while the app is running in the background.

Android requires a foreground service to display a persistent notification while this type of background operation is active.

Mute-Mate does not use this notification to collect personal information or track you for advertising purposes.

8. Boot and App Restart

Mute-Mate may receive Android system events when the device finishes booting or when the app is updated.

These events may be used to restore the Mute-Mate automation service when the necessary permissions and configuration are available.

The app does not use boot information to create a user profile or for advertising.

9. Google Maps

Mute-Mate uses the Google Maps SDK for Android to display maps and allow you to select and manage location zones.

The Google Maps SDK is provided by Google and may collect certain information required to provide and improve Google Maps services, such as device and SDK information, IP address, crash metrics, a pseudonymous SDK identifier, and certain map interaction information depending on how the SDK is used.

This information is handled by Google according to Google's policies and is separate from Mute-Mate's own local storage and automation processing.

For more information, please review the Google Privacy Policy .

10. Third-Party Services

Mute-Mate does not currently use third-party services for:

The app does, however, use third-party software and platform services required for its functionality, including Google Maps and Android system services.

Third-party services may process information according to their own privacy policies and terms.

11. Data Sharing

Mute-Mate does not sell your personal information.

Mute-Mate does not intentionally share your saved zones or location history with advertisers, analytics providers, or other third parties.

Information may be processed by third-party services when required to provide functionality that you explicitly use, such as Google Maps or an application you select through Android's sharing system.

12. Permissions

Depending on your Android version and the features you use, Mute-Mate may request:

Mute-Mate requests these permissions only for functionality that depends on them.

13. Data Security

Mute-Mate does not operate a server containing your saved zones or location history.

Data stored locally by the app is protected by the security mechanisms provided by the Android operating system and the device.

14. Children's Privacy

Mute-Mate is not designed to collect personal information from children.

Because the app does not require an account and does not operate its own user-data backend, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children through a Mute-Mate server.

15. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when Mute-Mate's functionality, permissions, data practices, or third-party services change.

The updated policy will be made available within the app and through the app's public privacy-policy page.

16. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or Mute-Mate's privacy practices, please contact the developer using the contact information provided on the Mute-Mate Google Play listing.
